60 NCAA programs put players on a PLL roster this summer. A breakdown of which programs send the most players pro, and the ones that might surprise you
Each week, 21 players are named to the gameday roster for each Premier Lacrosse League club. Of these players, 19 suit up for their team, while two are held on the Protected Roster, ready to be activated in case of injury and to prevent them from being claimed by other teams. That means in a given week, up to 168 players are rostered. These players can come from all over the lacrosse landscape. In 2026, players from 60 NCAA programs (plus MCLA Florida) were rostered in the PL

Pan American Men's Lacrosse Championship Rosters by the numbers, and players to watch this week
The Pan Am Lacrosse Championships kick off this week, featuring nine teams competing to qualify for the next World Championships. Those will take place in Japan in 2027. While the expectation is that the US and Canada will battle for gold, the fact that multiple teams qualify beyond those top two means this tournament has a lot of weight. There is a lot of talented beyond those top two heavyweights. The Haudenosaunee, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica are all stacked as well, while Co

Brett Dobson has an MVP case in 2026. He had one in 2025, too.
I love to play the “Player A vs Player B” game. Two stat lines, side by side, try and guess who is who, and then be surprised and delighted to learn the result. Removes the bias of players being on your favorite (or least favorite) team, maybe recency bias, and anything else that might tilt you towards saying one is better than the other. Just the numbers, and the opportunity to be wrong, be surprised, or have your mind changed. For example: Player A: 59.1% save percentage, 1

Marcus Holman changing games, Archers get a long break, appreciating off ball play, and the Woods need some range. Plus playoff scenarios in PLL Week 11 overreactions.
Marcus Holman, game changer The Boston Cannons home weekend got off to a bit of an up and down start. The home squad went up early against Maryland in Friday night’s opener, but couldn’t hold momentum. The Whipsnakes went on a 6-0 second quarter run as the Cannons struggled to create quality looks, and the looks they did create were saved by a hot Emmet Carroll. Right at the halftime buzzer, Ajax Zappitello heaved a full field shot that actually got past JC Higginbotham and

The Outlaw trio that saved the season, revisiting faceoff rules, defining what history means, and the Atlas are on the clock. Week 10 PLL Overreactions.
Faceoff still needs some help The Carolina Chaos lost every faceoff on Friday night against the California Redwoods, and they won the game. With Justin Inacio hurt they opted not to dress a faceoff specialist and instead faced off with Ty English or other defensive midfielders, effectively conceding possession to the Woods. This was a popular strategy in 2023 when the rule changed to a 32 second shot clock after the faceoff, although in that season teams opted to use long sti

Tre Leclaire's heater, the Atlas are playing playoff games, Teddy Malone breaks out, and something is rotten in Denver. PLL Week 9 Overreactions.
Tre Leclaire is on the league’s hottest heater It’s hard to not sound hyperbolic when talking about how hot Tre Leclaire has been lately. Between the Fairfield and Denver weekends, he nearly tripled his season point total. He showed up to Fairfield with ten points on the season. He left Denver with his total at 27, now tied for 10th in the PLL. Scoring 17 points over three games, just shy of six points per game, is unreal. Other players to do that since PLL launch in 2019: 20

Rob Pannell broke the all time points record. It'll be a long time before anyone else even comes close.
On Friday night in Fairfield, Connecticut, early in the third quarter, Rob Pannell caught a feed from TJ Malone and quick sticked a shot low, scoring his third goal of the night to give the Whipsnakes a 9-5 lead. Maybe a small moment in the game, but a much larger moment in lacrosse history. It was career point number 658, which passed Paul Rabil for the all time points lead. It was a moment that defines Pannell as one of the greatest to ever play lacrosse. Pannell became the

CJ Kirst is not just outpacing previous MVP winners, he's outpacing the best seasons in PLL and MLL history. Through four games, we're on history watch.
Philadelphia Waterdogs attackman CJ Kirst has emerged as a clear front runner for PLL MVP. He’s scoring at a ridiculous pace. He has 20 goals, evenly split 10 apiece assisted and unassisted. He’s averaging 5.5 points per game, he has rocketed up the league leaderboards in scoring categories and has the Waterdogs at third overall in the standings, trailing only due to score differential. What makes all this more impressive is that Kirst was late arriving to the PLL season. Bec

Glen Powell movie characters, ranked by likelihood they'd be good at lacrosse
In some major news yesterday, the PLL announced a $100 million Series E financing round. Ares and Joe Tsai were the headliners, but another investor included actor, writer, and producer Glen Powell. Powell has been in attendance at PLL games in the past, and played lacrosse in high school. He's been on record before saying he would have interest in a lacrosse movie as sort of an untapped space in storytelling, and part of his coming on board sees him join the PLL as a creativ

The PLL belongs to rookies, doubleheader performance is backwards, just give it to CJ, and the Woods will lead the league in assists. PLL Week 6 Overreactions.
The league belongs to the kids Roster turnover has been a popular topic around the PLL lately. Turnover that is happening, at least in part, due to the fact that the young players in the league are so good. In a given game day, a PLL team has 21 players (19 active, two protected) on their roster. This past weekend, Philadelphia’s roster used 12 spots on players who finished college in 2024, 2025, or 2026. That includes four rookies in their midfield in Kyle Lewis, Josh Yago,

Lars Tiffany files legal action against University of Virginia seeking compensation.
Former UVA lacrosse coach Lars Tiffany has taken legal action against the University of Virginia, filing a declaratory judgment action against the university. The action states that a contract extension offer letter signed by Tiffany in March was in fact valid, and as a result, the university owes him compensation totaling over $1.4 million after his termination last May. Tiffany’s tenure as head coach at UVA ended last May after ten years, a time in which he won two national

The PLL and the Patriot League are kindred spirits, PLL Awards will have a weird year, and New York's season in the balance. PLL Week 4 Overreactions
The PLL and the Patriot League have a lot in common During the college season, I believe that anyone who tells you they know what’s going to happen in the Patriot League is lying to you. It’s an unpredictable conference with results every week that seem completely out of touch logically with what had happened the week before. Results against common opponents mean nothing, trying to look at stats to predict an outcome is a fool’s errand. It’s best to just sit back and enjoy th

The Whips are the future, Asher Nolting might need a new home, and Brennan O'Neill is the assists leader. PLL Week 3 overreactions
The Whips are ahead of the curve Maryland 2-0 on their homecoming weekend. It’s the second time they’ve pulled that off since it became a thing in 2024. The rest of the league combined has done in twice. Maryland’s friday night execution against Boston was as good as I’ve ever seen in the PLL. I know we’re doing overreactions, but that’s just a fact. The ball was humming, players were moving. Coach Stagnitta pointed out postgame that even when they made a mistake, they made u

From 76 players down to one. Using 20 years of trends to pick the 2026 Tewaaraton Award Winner.
It’s been, as expected, a wide open year in men’s college lacrosse. The preseason number one team in the media poll missed the NCAA tournament. Teams were up and down the polls all year, new number ones being crowned all the time. Duke, who some thought shouldn’t even have made the NCAA tournament, made a run to the Final Four. An extension of the wide open landscape for teams, the race for the highest honor in the sport is wide open as well. The Tewaaraton Award, lacrosse’s

The 40 names I want to see at PLL Pro Day
PLL Pro Day will be held around Baltimore weekend at the end of this month. It’s an opportunity for undrafted and player pool players to be on the field against other pro level talent and earn their way onto a roster. In compiling this list, I stuck entirely to names that are available and not on a PLL 25 man roster. I did not consider their current day job (if they’re working on), if they’re even interested in being pros, or things like that which might impact availability

Mikey Boehm took someone's job, who needs CJ Kirst anyway, and it's New York's title to lose. PLL Week 1 Overreactions.
Philly doesn’t need CJ Kirst anyway The Waterdogs overcame a fairly slow start to win 16-14 over Maryland in their opener. The put up nine goals in the second quarter. They hit a trio of two pointers in the third. Maryland was able to battle back a bit in the fourth quarter, but the middle section of this game showed fans just what Philly can be capable of. And therein lies the rub. Philly has some personnel issues to sort through each week. They have to play two of Michael S

PLL Roster Designations: a Reference Guide
The 2026 PLL season kicks off on Friday night in Utah. As happens every year, the time period leading up to the opener, including training camp and the first game week, has a flurry of roster moves being made. It can be a lot for fans to digest. Names are coming and going, sometimes names are missing that fans expected to see. The basic roster structure in the PLL is that each team has a 25 man active roster. Each week 19 players are selected from that 25 for the gameday rost

The PLL stars still competing in the NLL playoffs
The NLL playoffs are underway, and have already delivered unforgettable moments.
