The Carolina Chaos have announced Roy Colsey as their next head coach. Colsey is the second coach in team history, replacing Andy Towers who resigned last December.

Colsey is a Yorktown, NY native, a program with a rich lacrosse history. He was named an All American twice, and won two state titles.

At Syracuse, Colsey was a dominant midfielder. He was named All American four times, including three appearances on the first team, and in 1995 won the McLaughlin Award as the nation’s best midfielder. He won two national titles with Syracuse, the first in 1993 and the second in 1995. While his production on offense was gaudy for a midfielder, even by 2025 standards, he also was a force on ground balls, and even led the team in the stat in 1994.

As a pro, Colsey played for both iterations of the Barrage in the MLL, first with Bridgeport and then with Philadelphia. He was a four time all star, and was MLL Championship MVP in 2006 when the Barrage won the title. Colsey also played indoors professionally for the Rochester Knighthawks, New York Saints, Buffalo Bandits, New Jersey Storm, and Anaheim Storm. In his career, Colsey registered 216 goals and 178 assists indoors, 172 goals, 33 two pointers, and 63 assists outdoors. His 268 outdoor points came in just 85 games played. He also scored 25 playoff goals for the Barrage in seven games. Colsey was inducted into the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2012, and the PLL’s Pro Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2024.

Most recently, Colsey has been coaching Ridgefield High School in Connecticut. Taking over in 2009, Colsey brought Ridgefield their first ever FCIAC title in lacrosse, and won multiple state titles. In 2018 he was named the Gatorade CT Coach of the Year. He retired following the 2024 spring.

Colsey’s experience both indoors and outdoors should allow him to connect with the Chaos roster as currently constructed, with indoor stars like Josh Byrne and high powered midfielders like rookies Shane Knobloch and Eric Dobson. The hope undoubtedly is that his offensive prowess can refresh the Carolina offense and increase production.
