Jerseys from the Ohio State lacrosse team picture, ranked

I am a sucker for a great throwback jersey. Or just a great jersey in general. As a person who thoroughly enjoys playing the Remember Some Dudes game, a throwback jersey is a great way to kick things off. Just naming old sports heroes can go on for hours. It’s a favorite pastime of sports fans everywhere. So when the Ohio State men’s lacrosse account posted a team photo at their pool part to start the year, I immediately spied some gems. This is the team photo:

There are some in the back there that I can’t quite see. I think I see an Orioles jersey and a Ravens jersey, maybe a couple others, but without being to tell anything about them, I can’t rank them. This is just the 20 jerseys that are visible enough for me to rank.

Without further ado, jerseys from the Coach Myers Pool Party, ranked:

20. Utah Jazz away Karl Malone

I am not a Karl Malone fan. Personal bias takes over, I don’t like him so his jersey is bad.

19. Pittsburgh Penguins home Sidney Crosby

Hockey jerseys can be hard to pull off, and this Crosby jersey isn’t a throwback, which hurts the ranking.

18. Texas Basketball, Player Unknown

I see the player, and I don’t remember a #1 from Texas hoops. Durant wore 35 there. Texas colors are sharp and the jersey looks cool, not enough info to rate highly though.

17. Nick Foles Eagles home jersey

Like the Crosby jersey, a run of the mill jersey doesn’t do much for the ranking. But the player is is a very fun one, and a Philadelphia hero, so that helps.

16. Team 91 Maryland Fire reversible

This isn’t a pro throwback but it is a sweet looking logo. Unless I have this wrong and it’s an old Portland Fire jersey or something, in which case the ranking skyrockets.

15. German National Team 2010 Soccer Jersey, Player Unknown

There a lot of run players this could be. Miroslav Klose would be a sweet jersey. Germany won in 2006, so this one just misses the height of their powers, but these still are clean.

14. Houston Rockets throwback (I think, can’t see anything but the H)

Assuming it’s a Houston throwback in the back left. Jersey red, yellow piping around the neck, H on the chest, feels like a 90s rockets jersey. Can’t go on anything else.

13. LA Chargers home Joey Bosa

Not a throwback but the powder Chargers jerseys are always going to rate well for me. In my eyes, these popped more when the Chargers wore them once or twice a year instead of full time, but still a clean jersey.

12. UNC Home Michael Jordan

Ok now the heat is starting to show up. Jordan jerseys are sharp, UNC color scheme is great, just a solid looking jersey. Not the best Jordan jersey in the picture though.

11. Tune Squad Michael Jordan

Getting better. The Tune Squad jersey became a popular thing to have again in recent years. Maybe Space Jam re-entered people’s minds when Lebron made his version of the movie. Whatever the reason, it’s a good not great jersey for me.

10. Chicago Bulls home alternate Michael Jordan

These are from the Last Dance era of Jordan, the black with red pinstripes is sharp. In my mind, for some reason, I most associate this jersey with Dennis Rodman, but the #23 still is clean.

9. Ohio State road #18 (Will Howard already??)

Now the run on the Ohio State looks starts. Obviously there’s a lot in this photo. I respect the urgency to get the Will Howard jersey, who I assume this is because I don’t know any other OSU 18s. But that means it isn’t a throwback, so it falls behind the others.

(UPDATE: I'm an idiot. Marvin Harrison Jr wore #18. Still Will Howard maybe though?)

8. Ohio State road #17 (Jalin Marshall?)

I had to rack my brain for a Buckeye #17. I think Marshall did and he had some great games for them. It might also be Carnell Tate, who wears it now. Otherwise, it might just be the number for a Buckeye player who’s a friend of the lacrosse team, which would also be very cool, but lack of immediately recognizability of the number for me has it near the bottom of the Ohio State jerseys in the pic.

7. Ohio State home #1 (Braxton Miller?)

Braxton Miller wore #1 and #5, so maybe I’m wrong on this. But he was an electric player for Ohio State and for a stint in the NFL. Just generically, #1 is a very cool jersey number. I like the home jerseys more than the road jerseys for the Buckeyes, which helps too.

6. Ohio State home #4 (Curtis Samuel? Santonio Holmes? Kirk Herbstreit???)

Ohio State #4 has some exceptional names, and honestly, whoever this jersey is meant to be, it can’t be bad. By far my favorite Buckeye jersey in the photo.

5. Milwaukee Bucks home throwback, player unknown (Please be Ray Allen)

Can’t see a number, so can’t tell who it is. But this Bucks jersey is from the Ray Allen in Milwaukee era. The Michael Redd jerseys came later. If it’s a current player on a throwback jersey that’s a little less cool to me. But I’m assuming it’s UConn legend Ray Allen and scoring accordingly.

4. Red Alternate Sixers Allen Iverson

This era of Sixers jersey is one of my favorite basketball jerseys ever. The Mitchell and Ness throwback with the print in black on a red jersey is art. Tremendous.

3. 1996 NBA All Star Michael Jordan

The 90s All Star jerseys are heat across the board. These had a color scheme that came into style and went out of style in about three years. Even Detroit tried to make this teal work. These were from San Antonio and have some very cool nods to the local market. Excellent jersey.

2. San Francisco Dragons Liam Banks jersey

This jersey checks every box. Excellent throwback player (Liam Banks), team that is from a bygone era or not around anymore (San Fran Dragons only existed for a couple years), and it’s a lacrosse throwback. It doesn’t matter that the colors and scheme of the jersey are a little blah, everything else about it elevates it.

1. Kobe Bryant MPLS Lakers Throwback

The Kobe jersey is almost always going to win for me. And these Lakers throwbacks are probably my favorite in basketball. There is nothing not to love about this jersey. A clear #1.
